Kansk

City in Krasnoyarsk krai (territory), Russian Federation, in south-central Siberia; population (1996 est) 109,000. It is located on the Trans-Siberian Railway 200 km/124 mi east of Krasnoyarsk. At the centre of a rapidly developing industrial region based on coal, salt, and mica mining, Kansk has textile-manufacturing and wood-processing industries.

Kansk was founded as a fort in 1626, and has occupied its present site since 1640.
