Kapfenberg

Town in the southern Austrian province of Styria, northeast of Bruck an der Mur; population (1991) 23,400. A fortified town since the 12th century, it has had an ironworks since the 15th century. Kapfenberg has important steelworks, and also manufactures materials, chemicals, and electronic equipment.
