Karavelov, Lyuben (1837–1879)| Bulgarian writer, publicist, and nationalist. In 1857, he went to Moscow, where he developed radical views. On his return, he became a leading member of the Bulgarian liberation movement. His sketches of village life based on his native Koprivshtitsa pioneered the Bulgarian short story; for example, ‘Bulgari ot staro vreme/Bulgarians of Yore’. |
