Karditsa

Town in Thessaly, central Greece, capital of Karditsa department; population (2001) 32,000. It is an administrative and market centre for an agricultural region, trading in cereals, cotton, sheep, wool, hides, tobacco, and dairy products.

It is the seat of a bishop. General Nikolaos Plastiras, leader of the 1922 revolution, was born here 1883.
