Karelian bear dog

Breed of medium-sized dog, used to protect Russian settlements from bears. About 60 cm/2 in high, the dog has a black or reddish-brown coat with white markings.

It was not exported until 1989, when some were sent to Yellowstone Park, USA, to keep bears away from tourists.
