Kobarid

Village on the River Isonzo in northwestern Slovenia; population (1991) 1,300. Originally in Hungary, it was in Italy from 1918, and in 1947 became Kobarid. During World War I, German-Austrian troops heavily defeated Italian forces here October 1917 in the Battle of Caporetto, the town's former name.
