Karl V

Opera by Ernst Křenek (libretto by the composer), first produced at the German Opera, Prague, Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic), on 15 June 1938; the revised version was produced in Vienna, Austria, in 1984. It offers reminiscences of the emperor Charles V, presented as an anti-Nazi parable; this was not appreciated by the Viennese authorities and it was cancelled in rehearsal in 1934.
