Karun

River in west-central Iran; length 800 km/496 mi. The Karun is the main navigable river in Iran. It rises in the Zagros Mountains, flows through Khuzestan province, and joins the Shatt-al-Arab waterway at Khorramshahr. The Karun is navigable from its mouth to Shushtar. The main city on the river is Ahvaz.
