Kates, Robert

Kates, Robert (William) (1929– )

US geographer. His particular interests are reflected in the titles of the books that he coauthored: The Environment as Hazard 1978, Climate Impact Assessment 1985, Perilous Progress 1985, and Hunger in History 1989.

He was born in New York City. He taught at the graduate school, Clark University 1962–88. In 1986 he became director of the Brown University World Hunger Program.
