Kathiawar

Semi-arid peninsula on the west coast of India, lying on the Gulf of Khambhat and the Rann (Gulf) of Kutch. Formerly occupied by a number of princely states, all Kathiawar (60,723 sq km/23,445 sq mi) had been included in Mumbai state by 1956 but was transferred to Gujarat in 1960. Mahatma Gandhi was born in Kathiawar at Porbandar.
