Katyusha

Soviet free-flight rocket of World War II. It was fired from racks mounted in a heavy truck and had a range of about 5 km/3 mi. Each truck had 48 launcher racks and a battalion could lay down an immense rapid-fire barrage.

The rocket was 1.8 m/5.9 ft long and 130 mm/5.1 in diameter and weighed 42 kg/92 lb complete with a 22 kg/48 lb explosive warhead.
