Kaufman, Barry Neil

Kaufman, Barry Neil (1942– )

US psychotherapist. He founded the Option Institute in Sheffield, Massachusetts, to teach nontraditional methods of self-realization through changed attitudes that fostered trust and healing. His books include Son-Rise 1976, Giant Steps 1979, and A Land Beyond Tears 1981.

Born in New York City, he studied at Ohio State University, Hunter College, and the New School for Social Research. He was president of the Communications Quorum in New York City 1968–74.
