Caunus

Ancient city on the south coast of Caria in southwestern Asia Minor, opposite the island of Rhodes.

Caunus was the birthplace of the painter Protogenes, and exported fruit.

Dalyan has 167 tombs which are believed to be of ancient kings in the ancient city of Kaunos.
It felt a bit sad, we thought, and our guide explained Kaunos was eventually abandoned after the harbour silted up.
