Kavandi, Janet Lynn (1959– )

US astronaut. She flew aboard the space shuttle Discovery in June 1998, the final mission to dock with the Russian space station Mir. In February 2000, she flew on Endeavour, as part of the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission. In July 2001, she flew aboard Atlantis to install a new airlock module on the International Space Station. She has logged 33 days in space. Kavandi joined the Boeing Company in 1984, working on such space projects as the Inertial Upper-Stage rocket, before being selected as an astronaut in 1994.
