Kawasaki

Industrial city of Kanagawa prefecture, Honshu island, Japan; population (2000) 1,250,000. It is situated between Tokyo and Yokohama in the important Keihin industrial zone, the largest industrial zone in Japan, and is a major port for the import of raw materials. The main industries are iron, steel, shipbuilding, chemicals, and textiles. It is noted for its cherry blossoms at Inadazutsumi on the banks of the Tamagawa.
