Kay, Ulysses Simpson (1917–1995)

US composer. He studied with Howard Hanson at the Eastman School, New York, and with Paul Hindemith at Tanglewood. He was professor at the Lehman College, New York, 1968–88.

The Boor (after Chekhov; composed 1955, produced 1968), The Juggler of our Lady (composed 1956, produced 1962), The Capitoline Venus (1971), Jubilee (1976).

Orchestral

suite for strings (1949), serenade for orchestra (1954), fantasy variations for orchestra (1963).

Chamber

Scherzi musicali for chamber orchestra (1971); two string quartets (1953, 1956), piano quintet (1949).

Vocal

Song of Jeremiah, cantata (1954); choral pieces; songs.
