Boyle| Market town in County Roscommon, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 1,700. It is situated at the southern foot of the Curlew Mountains, 45 km/28 mi southeast of Sligo town, on the north bank of the River Boyle. Boyle has a considerable agricultural trade. The ruins of Boyle Abbey (founded by the Cistercians in 1161) can still be seen. |

It was a military barracks for the Connaught Rangers regiment from 1788 to 1922, and later for the Irish Army. The building also houses the Una Bhán Tourism Centre, a heritage centre, and a craft shop. |
