Kayah State

Division of Myanmar (formerly Burma), area 11,900 sq km/4,600 sq mi, formed in 1954 from the Karenni states (Kantarrawaddy, Bawlake, and Kyebogyi) and inhabited mainly by the Karen people; population (2001 est) 238,400. Kayah State has a measure of autonomy.
