Kayenta

Community in northeastern Arizona, south of Monument Valley and 26 km/16 mi south of the Utah border; population (2000) 4,900. It was founded as a trading post in 1910 and is now also a tourist base. Local uranium deposits contribute to its economy.

Kayenta is situated in an arid valley, on the site of prehistoric lakes, and is an important Navajo centre.
