Kearton, Cherry

    0.03 sec.

Kearton, Cherry (1871-1940)

British photographer and traveller who pioneered animal photography. Working with both still and cine cameras, he recorded the wildlife he encountered, and published many illustrated accounts of his travels. His most famous work was In the Land of the Lion, 1930.

Kearton was born at Thwaite-in-Swaledale, Yorkshire, the younger brother of Richard Kearton. His books on natural history were some of the first to be illustrated entirely by photographs. In addition to these, his photographs were used in many of his brother's books.
