Keita, Salif (1949- )

Malian singer and songwriter. His combination of traditional rhythms and vocals with electronic instruments made him popular in the West in the 1980s; in Mali he worked 1973-83 with the band Les Ambassadeurs and became a star throughout West Africa, moving to France in 1984. His albums include Soro (1987) and Amen (1991).
