Keitel, Harvey

Keitel, Harvey (1939– )

US actor. Since the early Martin Scorsese films Mean Streets (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), and Taxi Driver (1976), in which he gave a series of intense performances, Keitel has enjoyed a prolific career, appearing in such works as Thelma and Louise (1991), Reservoir Dogs (1992), The Piano (1993), and The Bridge of San Luis Rey (2004).

He made his screen debut in Scorsese's Who's That Knocking at My Door? (1969), and went on to work with the likes of Robert Altman, Alan Rudolph, James Toback, Jane Campion, Ridley Scott, and Paul Schrader, becoming one of the leading actors in contemporary US cinema.

Keitel's other films include Welcome to LA (1977), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Two Jakes (1990), Bad Lieutenant (1992), Bugsy (1991), Pulp Fiction (1994), Clockers and Smoke (both 1995), Dusk Till Dawn (1996), U-571 and Little Nicky (both 2000), and Taking Sides and Dreaming of Julia (both 2003).
