Keizer pursues two goals: to theorize the representations of slavery that have proliferated in black fiction since the 1960s and to negotiate the troubled relationship between African American literature and mainstream theories of subject formation.
Subsequently, a transfixing and moving evening of readings by a stellar group of ethnic American writers (Steven Bloom, Juan Bruce-Novoa, Arlene Keizer, Vijay Lakshmi, and Alecia McKenzie) carried on the stateside MELUS tradition of always showcasing notable ethnic writers at MELUS events.
