Kelleys Island

Island (area 1,170 ha/2,888 acres) and summer resort in northern Ohio, in Lake Erie, 16 km/10 mi north of Sandusky and 6 km/4 mi south of the Ontario border, Canada; population (1990) 200. The island is noted for its limestone deposits. Winemaking, market gardening, fishing, and tourism are also important.

Local attractions include Glacial Grooves and Kelleys Island state parks and Inscription Rock, an example of prehistoric petroglyphs.

Some vacationers prefer Kelleys Island and Put-in-Bay, which can be reached by boat or plane.
Together the Lake Erie Academic Research Network (LEARN), North Coast Telecommunity and the Telecommunity Network and its state agency partner, the Northern Ohio Educational Computer Association (NOECA), designed a network serving 18 communities including three island sites on Lake Erie: Put-in-Bay, Kelleys Island and North Bass Island.
