Kelly, Bryan (1934- )

English composer who studied with Gordon Jacob and Herbert Howells; he has written extensively for brass band and for educational use. He was professor of composition at Royal College of Music in London 1962-84; he then moved to Italy.

Herod, Do Your Worst, nativity opera (1968); The Spider Monkey Uncle King, opera pantomime (1971).

Orchestral

The Tempest Suite for strings (1967); two symphonies (1982, 1986).

Brass band

Edinburgh Dances (1973), Concertante Music (1979) for brass band.

Vocal

Stabat Mater for soloists and orchestra (1970), Latin Magnificat for chorus and wind instruments (1979).
