Kelterborn, Rudolf (1931- )

Swiss composer. He studied with Jacques Handschin and Willy Burkhard, Boris Blacher, and Wolfgang Fortner. In 1960 he became an instructor at the Detmold Music Academy, and was director of the Basel Academy from 1983. In his music he tends towards integral serialism.

Opera

Die Errettung Thebens (1963), Kaiser Jovian (1967), Ein Engel kommt nach Babylon (1977), Der Kirschgarten (after Chekhov, 1984), Julia (1991).

Orchestral

Metamorphosen for orchestra (1960); concertino for violin and chamber orchestra; concertino for piano and chamber orchestra; suite for woodwind, percussion, and strings; sonata for 16 solo strings (1955); cello concerto (1962).

Vocal

Cantata Profana for baritone, chorus, and 13 instruments (1960); cantata Ewige Wiederkehr for mezzo, flute, and string trio (1960).

Chamber

chamber music for various instrumental groups including five string quartets (1954-70), 5 Fantasien for flute, cello and harpsichord; 7 Bagatellen for wind quintet; Metamorphosen for piano; Meditation for six wind instruments.
