Kennebec County

County in southwestern Maine; area 2,269 sq km/876 sq mi; population (1990) 115,900. Its capital is Augusta. Manufacturing operations at Hallowell, Waterville, Augusta, and Gardiner produce shoes, textiles, paper, wood and pulp products, dairy products, and agricultural products. The Belgrade and Kennebec lake regions are popular resorts.

The Sebasticook and Kennebec rivers provide waterpower for the county.
