Kennedy, Michael (1926- )

English critic and writer on music. He joined the northern edition of the Daily Telegraph in 1941 and was its editor 1960-86. Active as a music critic since 1950, his books include histories of the Hallé Orchestra (1960 and 1983) and studies of Vaughan Williams (1964), Elgar (1968), Barbirolli (1971), Mahler (1974), Strauss (1976), Britten (1981), and Boult (1987). He was editor of the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Music (1980), which was revised as the Oxford Dictionary of Music (1985 and 1994).
