Kenora

It has pulp, paper, and flour mills, fish-processing plants, and boatyards, but depends heavily on holidaymakers and tourists.

History

A fur trade point from the 18th century, it later developed as a lumbering centre, and had an 1890s gold mining boom. It was incorporated as Rat Portage, Manitoba, in 1882, when the Canadian Pacific Railway was building in the area, became an Ontario township in 1892, and was renamed Kenora in 1904.
