Kent, Rockwell (1882-1971)

US painter and graphic artist. He spent much time travelling, going to sea as a ship's carpenter and recording impressions of his voyages in painting and written description. Paintings of lonely and mountainous shores were followed by illustrations in wood engraving, such as those for the 1930 edition of Herman Melville's Moby-Dick.
