Kent County| County in west-central Michigan; area 2,233 sq km/862 sq mi; population (1990) 500,600. Its capital is the furniture-manufacturing city of Grand Rapids; with its suburbs, which occupy much of the county's western area, it dominates the economy. The area has gypsum and gravel deposits, orchards, dairy farming, and market gardening. There is also a state fish hatchery and numerous lake resorts. |
