Kent County

County in west-central Michigan; area 2,233 sq km/862 sq mi; population (1990) 500,600. Its capital is the furniture-manufacturing city of Grand Rapids; with its suburbs, which occupy much of the county's western area, it dominates the economy. The area has gypsum and gravel deposits, orchards, dairy farming, and market gardening. There is also a state fish hatchery and numerous lake resorts.

The county is drained by the Thornapple, Rogue, and Flat rivers and crossed by the Grand River.

Kent County

County in central Rhode Island, bounded to the east by Narragansett Bay and to the west by the Connecticut border; area 445 sq km/172 sq mi; population (1990) 161,100. Its capital is East Greenwich. It is known for its coastal resorts. Local agriculture includes corn, dairy, fruit, mushroom, potato, poultry, and market gardening; textiles and textile machinery, tools and metal products, and chemicals are produced.

The county is intersected by the Flat, Moosup, Pawtuxet, and Wood rivers. There is fishing and lumbering in the area, and a number of state parks and forests.
