Kerle, Jacob van (c. 1531–1591)

Flemish composer. He spent some time in Italy, partly in Rome in the service of Otto von Truchsess, cardinal-archbishop of Augsburg, in whose service he was 1562–75. He was with the cardinal in Augsburg at times, and may have attended the Council of Trent with him (1562–63). Later he became canon of Cambrai, but was often in Vienna and Prague attending on the emperor Rudolf.

Preces, commissioned by the cardinal of Augsburg in 1562, Masses, motets, Te Deums, Magnificats, hymns, Sacrae cantiones.
