Kerns, Robert (1933-1989)

US baritone. He appeared with the New York City Opera in 1959 but thereafter sang in Europe, in Berlin and Vienna and at the Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg Festivals. At the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (where he made his house debut in 1964) he performed Mozart's Guglielmo many times and was also heard as Billy Budd, Count Almaviva, and Rossini's Figaro. He was a permanent guest at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin from 1973, and successful as Germont, Posa, Amfortas, Wolfram, Onegin, and Scarpia.
