Keski-Suomi

Province in south central Finland; area 16,430 sq km/6,344 sq mi; population (1995) 130,000. The land is low-lying with many interconnected lakes. Farming and timber are the main industries and the area is popular with holidaymakers. The capital, Jyväskylä, is the fourth-biggest commercial centre in Finland.

The Neste 1,000 Lakes Rally, sometimes called the Finnish Grand Prix, is based in Jyväskylä.
