Ketchall, Ephraim (1788–1877)

US social scientist and geographer. He made numerous explorations in the Mississippi Valley and Mexico, where he measured the size of pyramids and buildings. By using his figures as a measure of the advancement of nations, he had anticipated later archaeologists' ideas about the size of cities as a measure of their significance.

He was born in Old Mystic, Connecticut.
