Ketchum

City in central Idaho, on the Big Wood River, 129 km/80 mi north of Twin Falls; population (1990) 2,500. Situated just southwest of Sun Valley, it is the gateway to the resort area and headquarters of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.

It was a late-19th-century centre for the smelting and shipping of ores from surrounding mines. The US writer Ernest Hemingway had a home in Ketchum; he died and was buried here in 1961. The Hemingway Memorial is nearby.
