Kettering

Market town in Northamptonshire, England, 20 km/12 mi northeast of Northampton; population (2001) 46,900. Its principal industries are the manufacture of footwear and clothing, and engineering.

Wicksteed Park, covering 1 sq km/0.4 sq mi, lies to the south of the town. It was purchased by Charles Wicksteed at the end of the 19th century, to be used as a public park.

Kettering

City in southwestern Ohio, 16 km/10 mi southeast of Dayton; population (1990) 60,600. It is primarily a commuter suburb, but electric motors and generators, precision tools, car and aircraft parts, electronic components, and other goods are produced here.

Late-18th-century settlers came here to work the large stone quarries nearby. First called Van Buren township, the city was renamed in 1952 after the inventor Charles Franklin Kettering.
