Kettleman Hills

Low range of hills (about 400 m/1,300 ft) in central California, running some 32 km/20 mi along the western side of the San Joaquin Valley. Oil and natural gas are extracted here. Kettleman City (population (1990) 1,400) and Avenal are area centres.

Boxer and activists are concerned that potentially low-level radioactive materials were dumped improperly in the Kettleman Hills hazardous-waste landfill, which is owned by Waste Management.
