Kewanee

City in northwestern Illinois, 48 km/30 mi northeast of Galesburg; population (2000) 12,900. It slaughters and ships locally raised pigs. Manufactured products include heating equipment, farm and mining implements, and work clothes.

Settlement began in 1854, after the arrival of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad. Johnson-Sauk Trail State Park is to the northeast, and Black Hawk College-East Campus is to the south.
