Key Biscayne

Island in southeastern Florida, between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, 8 km/5 mi southeast of Miami; length 6 km/4 mi; width 1.6 km/1 mi; population (1990) 8,900. It is connected to Miami by the Rickenbacker Causeway (via Virginia Key). There are waterfront estates, marinas, and a variety of recreational facilities on the island.

The Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area, at its southern end, includes the Cape Florida Lighthouse (1825; now a museum).
