Kharg Island

Small island in the Gulf used by Iran as a deep-water oil terminal, l70 km/43 mi northwest of Bushire, Iran. The island is connected by a pipeline to petroleum fields on the mainland of Iran, and is the country's main deepwater oil terminal.

Until 1766 Kharg was the site of the last Dutch factory in the Gulf. Between 1982 and 1988 the island came under frequent attack during the Iran-Iraq War.
