Kharitonov, Dimitri (1958- )

Russian baritone. He studied in Leningrad and Odessa (1976-84) and sang at the Bolshoi Opera 1985-88 as Mazeppa, Eugene Onegin and Luna. He made his UK debut as Jochanaan in Salome at the Edinburgh Festival and settled in England in 1989. Following his US debut, in Chicago in 1990, as Sonora in La fanciulla del West, he appeared in San Francisco then Los Angeles from 1991 as Escamillo; Andrei in War and Peace; Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor; Gerard and Renato in Un ballo in maschera. His Glyndebourne debut in 1992 was as Yeletsky in The Queen of Spades.
