Khaskovo

Capital of Khaskovo region, southern Bulgaria, on a tributary of the River Maritsa, 56 km/35 mi southeast of Plovdiv; population (1990) 117,400. Industries include textiles and tobacco. The town was founded by Turks in the 14th century.
