Kidsgrove

Town in Staffordshire, England, 12 km/7 mi north of Stoke-on-Trent; population (2001) 7,150. Industries include nylon spinning, electronic engineering, light engineering, and the manufacture of chemicals and clothing.

The Harecastle tunnels, which take the canal and railway line across the watershed between the rivers Trent and Mersey, begin at Kidsgrove. The first canal tunnel was dug by the engineer James Brindley in about 1765. There are now two canal and two railway tunnels.
