Kienlen, Johann Christoph (1783–1829)

German composer. He appeared as singer and pianist at the age of seven and was later sent to Paris to study with Cherubini. In 1811, after being music director at Ulm, he went to Vienna, where he taught, and in 1823 he became singing-master to the Berlin opera.

Works

operas (e.g., Claudine von Villa Bella (Goethe, 1810)); a symphony; additions to E T A Hoffmann's incidental music for Goethe's Scherz, List und Rache; two piano sonatas; and many songs.
