Killiecrankie

Gorge of the River Garry, in Perth and Kinross unitary authority, Scotland, 6 km/4 mi north of Pitlochry. It extends 3 km/2 mi from Killiecrankie station to Garry Bridge. In 1689 it was the scene of a decisive Jacobite victory over the troops of William III (the Battle of Killiecrankie).

The plain at the top of the pass is known as ‘Soldier's Leap’, named after a government militiaman who jumped 6 m/20 ft to safety over the river.

John Graham of Claverhouse, Viscount Dundee, leader of the Jacobites in their attempt to restore the exiled James VII, died later from a bullet wound received in the battle.
