kilowatt

Unit of power equal to 1,000 watts or about 1.34 horsepower. If an electrical appliance has a power rating of 1 kW, it will change 1000 J of electrical energy into other forms of energy every second; for example, a 1 kW electric heater changes 1000 J of electrical energy into 1000 J of heat energy every second it is turned on.
