Kimmel, Husband E

    0.15 sec.

Kimmel, Husband E (1882–1968)

US admiral; commander-in-chief of the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor December 1941. Severely criticized after the success of the Japanese attack, Kimmel complained that he had not been warned by Washington and that he had taken all the preventive measures laid down by regulations. His only positive action, sending his carriers out on a routine exercise, at least saved a crucial portion of the fleet. Nevertheless, he was relieved of his duties ten days after the attack and held no active post thereafter.
