Kincaid, Thomas (Cassin) (1888–1972)

US naval officer. He took command of the USS Enterprise after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He took part in the battles of the Coral Sea, Midway, and the eastern Solomons. As Douglas MacArthur's naval commander 1943–45, he participated in the New Guinea and Philippines operations. He fought the Battle of the Leyte Gulf in 1944 and landed American troops in Korea in 1945.

An ordnance expert, Kincaid commanded Task Force 16 in the Battle of Santa Cruz in October 1942 during which the carrier Hornet was lost and the Enterprise seriously damaged. After the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1943 he trained Task Force 67, a cruiser squadron, for night fighting to deal with Japanese convoys trying to resupply Guadalcanal at night. He then commanded the naval force in the recapture of the Aleutian Islands, and the 7th Fleet in operations to land MacArthur on the Philippines in 1944.
