Kinder Scout

Mountain in Derbyshire, central England; height 636 m/2,087 ft. It is the highest point in the Peak District. The summit is an extensive peat-covered plateau.

The trip home was over Snake Pass and into Glossop, during which the sun went down in a scarlet and brass blaze of glory round the back of Kinder Scout at precisely the same time a great smoked-wax full moon bobbed up from behind Bleaklow Hill.

That said, as a rambler I subscribe absolutely to the principle "no man has the right to own mountains" as Ewan McColl had it in tribute to the Kinder Scout trespassers of the 1930s and would go to war over the right to roam, always respecting the farmers' work and what they do in the countryside to make it as it is.
